Huma/n/ature

“Ten thousand years ago, as hunter-gatherers started settling and fencing off land for farming, the agricultural revolution put humanity and nature on divergent paths. Since then, humanity has contributed to expand its reach, taking up more and more land and soaring only fragments of nature. This rupture threatens to collapse vital ecosystems. In order to survive, we need to re-blur the lines between what is “for” humanity and what is “for” nature. We must string our separate paths back together into a single huma/n/ature.”

In a special collaboration between Bozar Brussels: Centre for Fine Arts and Are We Europe Magazine, the Mayday Magazine 2021 was published. It calls out on the contradictions of the present and explores imaginative scenarios for the future. This feature is about the symbiosis between humans and nature and the future of this strange yet possible relationship.
